Something funny happened earlier last week.
One of the youth at church wrote on my back window, “Honk if you love Jesus” while I wasn’t around. When I wandered back to my car later that night, I saw it and immediately a name and face came to mind (which turned out to be correct). I laughed and got in my car to leave. Well, seeing as it was pretty late at night and I didn’t have access to a hose to wash it off, I decided not to worry about it until tomorrow…
The next morning came and I was running a bit late, so I got ready as fast as I could and hopped in my car to head to work. As I was driving, I heard a honk behind me. Immediately I glanced back and thought, “What?! I’m not doing anything wrong!” My defensive face shot up and I sped up a little bit to get out of the guy’s way.
Later that day on my way home, I was driving on a main highway when a car beside me honked. I looked over and a white guy in about his mid 40s was smiling as big as he could as he passed by. I was a bit freaked out, so instinctively I gave him a disgusted look. I glanced in my rearview mirror to make sure there weren’t any other perverts behind me and went on my merry way.
A few miles down the road, while I was waiting at a stoplight, it finally dawned on me that I had writing on the back of my windowshield. It took another “honk!” to finally make me glance back over my shoulder and have the writing catch my eye.
Let me tell you. I felt like such a dummy.
It wasn’t that I forgot that I had writing on my car…I remembered each time I walked up to get in. I guess it was just the supposition that people would actually “Honk if they loved Jesus” that I was in denial of. It never clicked that people were honking because of the writing on my car and not because of something I did wrong or crude. Haha. It makes me laugh now. And I finally did wash it off.
It’s kind of strange though, I wonder what people thought after they honked and then saw my mean face staring back at them? Haha. I can tell you one thing, after I realized that people were taking notice of the writing on my car, it was strange, I started driving more carefully and smiling more as I drove by. I guess, I felt as though I were a representation of Jesus because of what my car had written on it.
Hmm…quite a concept. Representing Christ. I’m not sure about you, but I know that I am not always a good representation of Jesus to others. Especially while I’m driving. I give dirty looks, I cut people off, I tailgate when I’m in a hurry…all things that are disrespectful to others on the highway. And that’s just my attitude while driving. It took the name of Jesus plastered on my car for me to start behaving like a Christian should. Patient, joyful, peaceful, kind, having self-control. Now, my car might be clean of the words “Jesus” but it still represents who I am as a person. I hope that my car, my life, speaks Christ to others.
What does your car say about you?

This really made me laugh. Hilarious, honestly.
